What you’ll need

Essential decoflair items

Other must-haves

  • Large tooth saw or electric saw
  • Caulking gun
  • Spirit level
  • Pencil
  • Masking tape
  • Folding ruler
  • 150 grain or finer sandpaper
  • Spatula, sponge or cloth

1. Plan your layout

Planning is obviously an essential step in determining the quantities of chair rails you'll need, but it's also crucial for visualising what your project will look like. For this step, we recommend using masking tape as a test, so that you can get a better idea of the final result. Once you've finalised the layout, trace your marks on the wall with a pencil.

2. Cut the chair rails

To install the chair rails in frames, you'll need to cut them at both ends at 45° to form right angles. Simply use the 45° notches in the mitre box and cut them into this shape.

Insider tip: after cutting, use sandpaper and lightly sand the cuts to ensure a clean, neat result.

 3. Install the chair rails

Following your markings, fix the chair rails to the wall. Apply a continuous strip of glue to each gluing surface on the back of the chair rails and press them lightly against the wall. Be sure to touch up the joints with a little glue after installation and leave to dry for at least 6 hours before moving on to the next step.

Insider tip: any excess glue during installation can be removed with a spatula, sponge or damp cloth.

 4. Paint and let dry

Once the glue has dried and the chair rails are installed, paint them in the colour of your choice and you're done! It's as simple as that.

All the installation steps are also summarised in our wall frame installation video on our YouTube channel. Go take a look if you need any further instructions.
